The documentary “Beckham” on Netflix last year highlighted the football icon’s ascent to fame in the 90s as an English player. It candidly covered the intense scrutiny he endured, including his notorious red card incident at the 1998 World Cup and the alleged affair with his assistant Rebecca Loos.

The film depicted these events as challenging times in Beckham’s life that tainted his growing popularity and strained his marriage with Victoria Beckham. Fans praised the documentary for Beckham’s openness in revealing his vulnerabilities and confronting the most difficult times of his life.

Henry Cavill recently made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, where he was asked about his opinions on the documentary featuring a fellow British celebrity like him. Cavill expressed his love for the doc and Beckham for showcasing the struggles to achieve fame and his ability to deal with and come out of the uncomfortable media scrutiny he faced. He said,

“It’s very good. Really good. it highlighted the era and how difficult it was being a British sporting celebrity and obviously married to a massive pop icon as well. I mean, it looks uncomfortable, to say the least”

Being a big movie star himself, Cavil knows the responsibility of being a celebrity constantly in the public eye and the various negative connotations that come with it. Media scrutiny and unjustified backlash are common things that celebrities like Cavill and Beckham face frequently and thus, the Superman actor loves the football icon for detailing that in his hit documentary.

Henry Cavill is teaming up again with Guy Ritchie for the WWII action-comedy, “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” following their 2015 collaboration on “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” The movie depicts the endeavors of the Special Operations Executive, a clandestine British World War II organization that altered the war’s trajectory. Cavill portrays a dramatized rendition of the squad’s commander, Gus March-Phillipps.

Cavill talked about his working process with Ritchie and the creative freedom he provides to actors during an interview with MovieWeb. The actor further praised his leadership qualities as a director on-set and how he allows every actor to shine, making it a wholesome family unit. He said,

“It felt comfortable. Guy is really good at creating an environment where creativity feels safe. He’s a really good leader on set. He gives everyone their room to shine as well. And without sounding corny, because people always say this, they say it feels like family. It really does, because he’s been working with a lot of those guys since his earliest movies on the crew.”

Along with Cavill, the film also stars Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and Cary Elwes. Cavill, González, and Ritchie will reunite yet again for the action thriller In the Grey with Jake Gyllenhaal.
