“Superman’s death will change him the Most..”: One of the Most Hated Moments From Ben Affleck vs Henry Cavill Iconic BVS Fight Resurfaces on Mother’s Day

Who would’ve imagined that this was going to be the scene fans talked about on Mother’s Day?

Fans had a lot of expectations from Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill. After all, it was going to be the first live-action film starring both Batman and Superman. While the film did an impressive job at the box office, the critics did not seem to be fans, and the fans were divided in their opinions.

Regardless, there are quite a few unforgettable moments from the film, including the one where Ben Affleck’s Batman almost succeeds in killing Henry Cavill’s Superman. The iconic fight had viewers on the edge of their seats as at any moment the Kryptonite-tipped spear could pierce through the superhero. Luckily for him, the fight came to an end, all thanks to one name: Martha.

Recently, the scene from the 2016 movie resurfaced on the Internet on the precious occasion of Mother’s Day.

As Ben Affleck’s Batman was about to defeat Henry Cavill’s Superman, the latter uttered, “You’re letting them kill Martha” and “Find him, save Martha.” Batman halted, repeatedly questioning “Why did you say that name?”

The revelation that Martha was also the name of Superman’s adoptive mother, just as it was Batman’s mother’s name, altered Batman’s view of the superhero before him.

Among fans, the scene is more notorious than acclaimed, eliciting diverse opinions. Intended to be a dramatic moment, it instead became a meme. Thus, when the scene re-emerged on X during Mother’s Day, it received a polarized reception, with some recognizing its significance and others resorting to mockery.

Take a look at what fans had to say about it below:

As for the scene, Superman mentioning Martha pulls Batman out of his rage, and the former slowly humanizes in the latter’s eyes.

Speaking with Screen Rant, the stunt coordinator Damon Caro opened up about the scene and revealed that he does not understand the hate that it gets. He added that he had a conversation with Zack Snyder about the same.

“There was…zero conversation about ‘Oh, people are going to have an issue with this or not understand it or think it’s silly. It was – and it’s so funny, Zack and I had a conversation about that, I don’t know, a month ago, probably. That came up and I just said, ‘I have never understood’ and I don’t listen to a lot of the haters, but I’ve heard the chatter of it a little bit, but I don’t understand what the disconnect was.”

He then went on to explain the importance of the Martha scene and how it changed Batman’s outlook toward Superman forever, just by the mention of his mother’s name.

“What the problem is with how salient that line is and the connection between having the same mother’s name allows you to connect with someone you wanted to obliterate from the planet because you saw him as a threat to the human race.

“You saw him as a threat to humanity, then in that one moment, you realized he was an orphan and his mother’s… you saw him as you as you as a kid and you saw him in that light, so that enlightened you, that made you drop and see him now, not as the enemy, but as an ally. A fellow being who is trying to do the right thing, to reach justice.”

Snyder also told GQ that when screenwriter Chris Terrio suggested how the utterance of Martha’s name could affect Batman, the filmmaker was all for the brilliant idea.
