‘Flat-Out Haters!’ LeBron James Pleads With WNBA To Treat Caitlin Clark Fairly.
They still don’t get it.
What should be a fun discussion about how good WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark is, and about how good she will someday be, has devolved into a messy and dirty argument about race and sexuality and privilege and …
Why didn’t we just listen to LeBron James?
This past weekend’s game between Clark’s Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky featured Chennedy Carter cheap-shotting Clark with a blind-side hit during a dead-ball inbounds play.
It’s the sort of play that isn’t even allowed in the NFL … and has no place in basketball.
And is has become clear that some WNBA veterans – some – are jealous of the attention given the rookie and No. 1 overall pick.
James made comments in support of that concept earlier this season … and they still resonate.
“If you don’t rock with Caitlin Clark game you’re just a FLAT OUT HATER!!!!! Stay far away from them people!! PLEASE,” James wrote on X. “I’m rooting for Caitlin because I’ve been in that seat before…. I’m getting the same thing from my son.. getting a lot of animosity and hatred towards him… there’s a very small number of men and women that actually get to live out their dream of playing the professional sport, and we have grown ass men and women out here doing whatever they can to make sure that doesn’t happen … I’m glad that Caitlin has a great head on her shoulders.”
Sure. Except when a dirty opponent cheap-shots her so violently that it seems like her head is about to be knocked free from her shoulders.
It is true that LeBron faced a great deal of hate through his NBA career … but we thought it mostly came from the audience, not from his peers.
That’s what makes this Clark stuff even nastier than what young LeBron endured.
