Canelo Alvarez responds to Mike Tyson: I will respect his opinion if he is sober after the fight with the Pauls | HO
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has already revealed that his next opponent will be Jaime Munguia. The news left the boxing world somewhat disappointed, since the fight that everyone wants to see is against David Benavidez. However, it seems that the Mexican is avoiding facing his compatriot.
One of Alvarez‘s main critics is former world heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, who said that Canelo it was “a shame” for boxing that he didd not accept to fight with Benavidez.
Now, Canelo responds to the American with a direct hook to the ego of ‘Iron Mike’.
Ahead his first confrontation with Jaime Munguia, Canelo spoke to the media about Tyson‘s remarks and emphasized the former heavyweight champion’s addictions, especially his alcoholism, responding in a rather harsh way.
“I would respect his opinion if he was sober,” Canelo noted.
“I don’t need to prove anything to anyone, I remember when that happened with [Gennady] Golovkin. I don’t need to prove anything.
“This fight is more important than others. When you guys ask me about Golovkin, Callum Smith, Billie Joe Sounders or Caleb Plant… nothing is enough for you.”
Canelo’s next fight will be against Munguia
Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs) and Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) will square off in Las Vegas for the undisputed super middleweight title. Alvarez has held all four major belts since 2021, while Munguia only moved up to 168 pounds last year.
Munguia has been looking up to Alvarez for his entire professional career. The fighters shook hands and interacted politely during their promotional appearance at the hotel’s famed Crystal Ballroom.
