Caitlin Clark: WNBA Elevates Foul against Fever Star, Indiana General Manager Calls for Crackdown on “Targeting Actions”

Several commentators claim that Carter deliberately shoved her hip and shoulder into the back of Clark, who was facing away and fell to the ground following the infringement.

The WNBA amended the penalty issued against Carter to a Flagrant 1, according to league rules, which refers to “unnecessary and/or overly forceful contact made by a player against an opponent.”

Clark’s team, Fever, triumphed over the Sky with a score of 71-70 in the thrilling contest.

Carter refused to elaborate on the infringement in interviews, saying, “I won’t answer any Caitlin Clark questions.”

In a post on X, Fever’s general manager, Lin Dunn, expressed concern about the distinction between vigorous defense and “targeting actions.”

“Things need to stop! The league needs to ‘clean up’ the mess! This isn’t who this league is!” Dunn exclaimed on X.

CNN has requested comment from the WNBA.

Clark, meanwhile, discussed the infringement during her post-game press conference, saying, “It’s what it is. I’ve reached a point where I refuse to react and let it fester in my mind. Simply take it in stride, be unruffled, and concentrate on what’s crucial.”

“I anticipate taking a few forceful blows each game,” Clark added. “It’s simply a fact. I’m attempting not to let it get to me and instead stay involved in the game and concentrate on my team and what’s important.”

However, Fever head coach Christie Sides later took to social media to urge the WNBA to reprimand the “unacceptable” scenario.

Fever member Angel Reese, who was witnessed applauding and hugging Carter after the foul, was penalized $1,000 by the WNBA for failing to satisfy media obligations following the contest, according to league sources.

The Sky also received a $5,000 fine for not ensuring all players adhere to league media guidelines.

CNN has sought comment from the Chicago Sky.

The Fever lost to the New York Liberty 104-68 on Sunday, bringing their overall record to 2-9. Clark contributed three points during the game, going 1-for-10 in shooting attempts.
