Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury fell to 3-5 on the season with a blowout loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Friday night.
Minnesota jumped out to a 24-point halftime lead and never looked back as the Lynx raced to a 95-71 win. It was the fourth-straight loss for the Mercury, who started the season with a respectable 3-1 record in their first four games.
Taurasi and company struggled from the field, connecting on fewer than 40-percent of their shots. The veteran guard led that front by shooting just 3-of-10 from the field and 2-of-6 from beyond the arc.
During the late stages of the blowout loss, the WNBA’s leading scorer appeared to be a little upset with how things were going on the court. After taking a seat on the bench, Taurasi picked up a water bottle and spiked it into the court.

Down 21 points at the time, it’s not difficult to see why she was so upset. The Mercury entered the 2024 season with high expectations that seemed legitimate after a 3-1 start.
Now, with Brittney Griner sidelined due to injury and a four-game losing streak, it looks like the season might be getting away from the Mercury in a hurry.
Phoenix will try to bounce back against the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday night.
